About EcoEdge

Smart home automation hardware, built for Home Assistant

EcoEdge makes local-first, MQTT-native controllers for underfloor heating, irrigation, and custom automation. No cloud. No subscription. Just reliable hardware that works with your Home Assistant setup the moment it powers on.

What is EcoEdge?

EcoEdge is a smart home automation hardware company focused on local-first, open-protocol controllers. Our flagship product, the ECO1624, is a 16-channel 24V DC controller designed to work natively with Home Assistant via MQTT auto-discovery. Plug it in, connect to WiFi, and it appears in your Home Assistant dashboard as a 16-port switch device — no YAML, no manual entity configuration, no cloud account.

We build for Home Assistant enthusiasts, professional installers, electricians, and IoT developers who want dependable hardware that respects local control. Our devices use open protocols (MQTT, REST API) and come with full documentation so you always understand what your hardware is doing.

Our Products

EcoEdge ECO1624 — 16-Port 24V Controller

The ECO1624 is a compact, DIN-rail mounted 16-channel controller delivering 24V DC on each port. It is purpose-engineered for underfloor heating manifold control but equally capable of driving irrigation solenoid valves, HVAC zone dampers, and custom 24V relay circuits.

Home Assistant Integration

EcoEdge controllers are built from the ground up for Home Assistant. The ECO1624 uses the MQTT integration with auto-discovery, meaning your Home Assistant instance discovers all 16 switch entities automatically — no configuration files to edit.

Once discovered, you can control each port individually from the Home Assistant UI, include them in automations, link them to thermostat entities for heating zone control, or trigger them from Node-RED, scripts, or scenes. The device subscribes and publishes to standard MQTT topics that are fully documented.

Works with: Home Assistant OS, Home Assistant Supervised, Home Assistant Container. Compatible with any MQTT broker: Mosquitto (the official Home Assistant add-on), EMQX, or any standards-compliant broker on your WiFi.

Use Cases

Underfloor Heating Manifold Control

ECO1624 is the go-to choice for radiant floor heating systems with 4–16 zones. Connect manifold actuators (NC or NO, 24V) directly to the screw terminals. Each zone becomes a Home Assistant switch entity, controllable by thermostat automations. Zone scheduling, weather compensation, and occupancy-based control all work out of the box via Home Assistant.

Irrigation Valve Control

Drive up to 16 24V solenoid irrigation valves independently. Pair with the Home Assistant irrigation integration for scheduled watering, rain sensor bypass, and soil moisture automation. Fully local — watering schedules execute even without internet connectivity.

HVAC Zone Control

Control 24V HVAC zone dampers, motorized valves, and fan coil units. Each ECO1624 port can open or close a zone independently, enabling room-by-room climate control through Home Assistant.

Custom 24V Automation

Any 24V DC device within the 1.7A per-port limit can be controlled: motorized blinds interfaces, garage door openers, gate controllers, pump starters, LED drivers, and industrial sensors. The REST API exposed by the web UI allows integration with Node-RED, Python scripts, or any HTTP client.

Why Local-First Automation Matters

Most smart home products route commands through a manufacturer cloud — meaning your lights, heating, and irrigation depend on a server staying online and a company staying in business. EcoEdge takes the opposite approach: all control logic stays on your WiFi. The ECO1624 talks directly to your local MQTT broker. Automations run in Home Assistant on your own hardware.

This means faster response times (no round-trip to a cloud server), no privacy exposure of your home activity data, continued operation during internet outages, and no risk of a cloud shutdown making your hardware useless. It is the approach that professional Home Assistant integrators and serious smart home builders have relied on for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does EcoEdge ECO1624 work with Home Assistant?

Yes. ECO1624 uses MQTT auto-discovery and appears in Home Assistant as a 16-port switch device within seconds of connecting to your network. No YAML configuration is needed.

Does it require a cloud connection or subscription?

No. ECO1624 operates entirely on your local network via MQTT. There is no cloud account, no subscription fee, and the device works even when your internet connection is down.

What type of actuators does ECO1624 support?

Both NC (normally closed) and NO (normally open) 24V actuators. This covers underfloor heating manifold actuators, irrigation solenoid valves, HVAC zone valves, and most 24V relay circuits.

Can I use ECO1624 for irrigation?

Yes. Standard 24V AC/DC solenoid irrigation valves are fully compatible. Pair with the Home Assistant irrigation integration for scheduled, sensor-based, or automation-driven watering.

How many zones can I control?

Up to 16 independent zones (ports), each rated at 1.7A at 24V DC (40.8W per port). Total system maximum is 50W across all active ports simultaneously.

How do I update the firmware?

Over-the-air (OTA) via the built-in web UI. Open a browser, navigate to the device IP address, and apply updates without any programmer or special tools.

Does it fit on a DIN rail?

Yes. ECO1624 mounts on standard 35mm DIN rails, fitting residential distribution boards and commercial electrical enclosures. Direct wall mounting is also supported.

Where is the documentation?
